It would be foolish to assume that a item popular now will still be popular at a later date. History is filled with forgotten fads and big hits that have vanished. I'm not just talking about Fabian's singing career.

Several people have assumed that certain websites will still be popular 10, 20 or even 50 years from now. This is utterly unproven. These websites could vanish, and what is in-and-out changes constantly. Therefore, I say that, regardless of whether they keep copies of their content, all major websites should be archived frequently. The Internet is already loaded with once-popular sites now fully gone from the "live internet". Unless the Internet Archive ends up like Fabian (which is sadly possible the way things have been going lately)..
